The school:
The school’s terrain, you can see it in the promotion video, is an property
surrounded by walls with three classrooms, and art- and storage room, a
kitchen, sanitary facilities, an office, a living- and play room and a grass
meadow.
All these things were consciously planned by ENPA, because they provide
the children in every thinkable way they need for a physically and
psychologically healthy development.
Mothers training
It is in our interest, that the families of the supervised children are getting
included in the process of the project. This happens regularly in parents
evenings and especially in common projects to help the families help
themselves in the future. To make them independent and help them to
break out of the vicious circle of poverty. The “mothers training”, for
example offered the mothers of the pupils sewing courses and with small
financial credits (microcredits) ENPA were able to support the income of
some families at long-term.
School outing, summer 2015
In august 2015 the children and their teachers went to a hill near the
school. Despite the typical strong rain for this season the children had a
lot of opportunities to romp, explore the nature and visit historical buildings
like a very old church that has been almost completely destroyed by the
fascist Italy during the Second World War.
Individual cases/examples
In these pictorial cutouts you may see how an analysis of new potential
students looks like. Usually the project manager receives informations
from the community regularly and sometimes from the authorities that
another family exist in the area with a four/five years old child. After that
Kaleb (the project manager) will meet the family soon and will check their
constitution and living conditions. Most of the families are desperately
poor and a lot of them could never afford to send their children to one of
the public schools. Kaleb’s difficult task is to decide which of the
candidates will have the chance to become a new student of ENPA.
The list of applying candidates expands constantly because of the
growing reputation of ENPA in the area of Kotebe.
Out of respect of the people and families we will censor their names and
eyes. Thank you for understanding!
Living conditions:
Ethiopia is not a rich country (financially). The average salary of an
Ethiopian is 1,30€ per day!
The infrastructure as well is, compared to other countries, inadequate.
Even if you are able to notice the resistant and high growth of the
economy in recent years, especially in Addis Ababa, you can only hope
that this progress will also benefit the poor of this country. Here you can
see and example of the living conditions of the families of the pupils who
get supervised by ENPA.
Ethiopian landscape:
Ethiopa is a stunning country. Large and unbelievable beautiful. The
biggest within-state of the world compared to the population. You will
barely find another country so old and with such a unique history and
culture. The cradle of humanity, the only African country which has never
been colonized (despite the short occupation of Italy during the Second
World War), the only African country with an own alphabet; A country that
is famous for their history of religions (Ethiopia was the second country
which has accepted the Christian religion as their state religion. Even
before the Roman Empire did) and their peaceful coexistence. A green
country. A country which appears in so much songs of the Rastafari
community as their original home country.
Ethiopia got a lot of potential. Economically the country is developing fast.
We’ll have to see if this is enough to fix all the problems of this oldest state
in existing.
Like one of my dear friend who lives in Addis wrote:
“People ask: Aren't you from Ethiopia that poor country?
